Lorde talks how she took charge of the third Hunger Games soundtrack in Billboard‘s November issue – highlighting the meetings, cold calls and the artistic risks. She emphasizes that she wouldn’t have been satisfied with making an EP, as suggested by Lionsgate — the Hollywood studio behind the franchise. She also says that with Mockingjay – Part 1, she fulfilled a personal career goal of hers. “I’d really wanted to A&R a record,” she says to Billboard. “And I basically got to do that.”
All of this helps to portray Lorde as a singular artist, someone who would actually pair The Chemical Brotherswith Miguel (“This Is Not a Game”) and feature Q-Tip, Pusha T, HAIM and herself on the same song. What’s also memorable is how she revealed that yes, she still gets nervous. “I’m the worst person ever at talking to people I don’t know on the phone — I can’t even order pizza,” Lorde says of reaching out to personal idolKanye West. “I would put off calling him. I’d say, it’s 12:57, I’ll do it at 1.”
