Well, Carrie Underwood has just premiered the video for her new single “See You Again” and it’s pretty by-the-numbers country video stuff: Vaguely inspirational footage of people having emotional experiences, lots of dudes in military fatigues, people loving and crying, Major Life Events — intercut with shots of Underwood looking luminous in a gauzy white dress in a gauzy white room, all blonde and gauzy and pretty and bathed in heavenly light.
After the gloom of “Blown Away” and “Two Black Cadillacs,” she’s probably earned a return to convention, even if it feels a little trite. No doubt it will strike exactly the right chord with a large subset of her viewers.
