“The Veronicas” (previously known as “Life On Mars“, “The Awakening” and “You and Me“) is the self-titled third studio album by Australian pop duo The Veronicas formed by idential twins Jessica and Lisa Origliasso.
The album, which cites influences by classical music, classical rock and pop genres, is their first release in over five years and is was put up for sale on digital retailers on November 21, 2014.
Jessica Origliasso stated that the album was inspired by artists The Subways, The Dead Weather, Mazzy Star, Ladytron and Peaches. They have described the album as “a little different from the last two records, a pop record with different undertones”
The first buzz single was “Lolita“, released on iTunes on July 27, 2012 through Sire and Warner Bros, but after several delays in the release of the album, and due to the fact of label conflict, The Veronicas break the contract with them and start new life as an independent label on early November 2013. In 2014, they signed a new major record deal with Sony Music Entertainment to release and promote the album.
The girls also explained that “Lolita” isn’t an official single promoting the new album “It was just a single release for our Australian fans, as its been such a long time since we have had anything new over there“.
The lead single from the album is the song “You Ruin Me“, premiered on Australian radio on September 11th. It was released on iTunes on September 19th.
During a Twitter Q&A, Jessica and Lisa confirmed some details of the upcoming release. They have everything they wrote under Warner Music, and some songs appear on the new album including “Cold” and “Did You Miss Me?“. The track featured on “You Ruin Me” video teaser called “Cruel” and it could be released as a countdown single alongside the pre-order of the album on iTunes.
The album is described as “Uncensored”, the standard edition consists of 14 tracks and they have confirmed that there will be a deluxe edition with some bonus tracks. The Veronicas also confirmed upcoming tour in 2015.
Alongside the pre-order of the album on iTunes, the duo unveiled the track “Line of Fire” as first countdown single. The song “If You Love Someone” was confirmed as the second official single taken from the album, and released on November 21st.
