“R8” is definitely about to commence. Rihanna took to Instagram on Tuesday night (Nov. 25) to post a 15-second clip of an unnamed brand new song. “Ain't none of this sh*t promised / Ain't none of this sh*t certain”, sings RiRi in the hip-hop jam. The Instagram video titled “phuckin roun in da studio” shows a moving white Nike sneaker – allegedly that of Rihanna’s – and 15 seconds of the studio version of a new Rihanna song playing in the background.
The short snippet sounds super exciting and promising. We all love the Rihanna that gives us them Top 40 singles but her hip-hop persona is much more fascinating to me. “Pour It Up” was such a jam even though it didn’t have the chart success of “Diamonds” or “Umbrella” for instance.
I wonder, though, if the fact that the first snippet that we hear from “R8” be from a hip-hop song means that “R8” will be all or almost all hip-hop? Rihanna is yet to do an album that’s entirely of this genre. I wouldn’t mind an album of only “Pour It Ups”!
The unnamed new song has a hot urban beat, and it's definitely giving me Drake and Future vibes. Will Future be involved in "R8"?
