Avril Lavigne Premieres 'Hello Kitty' Music Video
Pop rocker Avril Lavigne premiered her music video for the song "Hello Kitty" on Monday (April 21). In the colorful clip, Lavigne plays around in the streets of Japan with some locals. "Hello Kitty" is the latest single from Lavigne's self-titled album. Released late last year, the record failed to make much of an impact sales-wise in the U.S. and Canada but it was a success in Japan, moving over 170,000 copies in the area. As a nod to her time spent in Japan, Lavigne shot a music video there for her pop-punk anthem "Hello Kitty." Returning to the bratty sound of her first three albums, she sings nonsensical lines like "Let's play truth or dare now / We can roll around in our underwear / How every silly kitty should be." It's classic Lavigne with an electronic twist. Lavigne hits the streets of Japan for the "Hello Kitty" music video. Flanked by Japanese dancers reminiscent of Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Girls, she stirs up some trouble in super colorful rocker outfits. Sadly, Avril never indulges in what would have been perfect cross-promotion with Sanrio's popular Hello Kitty brand. The famous feline doesn't make an appearance but Lavigne more than makes up for it with all the fun she has in her very "kawaii" (the word for "cute" in Japanese) clip. "Hello Kitty" follows the "Avril Lavigne" singles "Here's to Never Growing Up," "Rock N Roll" and "Let Me Go" featuring her husband Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. Lavigne's self-titled album was released in November of last year and it peaked at no. 5 on Billboard's albums chart, giving the singer-songwriter her fifth straight top five album in the U.S. She will return to the states next month as an opening act for the Backstreet Boys' In a World Like This tour.
