Lady Gaga Teases New Single, ‘Applause’

After a long, quiet break from the spotlight, Lady Gaga prepares to release a brand new song on August 19. The track will serve as the lead single from the singer’s forthcoming third studio album, ARTPOP. While there is no confirmation regarding the single’s title as of now, a photo of Gaga posted by her close friend Tara Savelo may hold the answer. Mother Monster is pictured painting (and smoking), though her hand strategically covers up what is on the center of the canvas. Still, written in red, the word “Applause” is visible near the top of the painting. Could this be the name of the song? A subliminal tweet by Gaga back in January seems to make more sense now: “If only fame came in I.V. form could I bare being away from you. I live for the way that you cheer and scream for me. The Applause.” Song lyrics, perhaps? On Tuesday evening (July 23), Gaga posted what could be interpreted as updated song lyrics, writing, “If only Fame had an I.V., baby could I bare being away from you. I found the vein, put it in here. “ Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP hits stores on November 11 while the single arrives on August 19. She is also rumored to be performing at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, broadcasting live on August 25 from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
