Watch Alanis Morissette’s new video for ‘Empathy’ (World premiere)

For her 2012 tour, Alanis Morissette took her whole family — husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway and their toddler Ever — around the world as the supposed former infatuation junkie supported her eighth studio album, Havoc and Bright Lights.

Along the way, Morissette’s drummer, Victor Indrizzo, kept the cameras rolling. That footage, intercut with Alanis and her crew making like a new age Bob Dylan circa makes up the new video for Havoc and Bright Lights’ track, “Empathy.”
This brings tears to my eyes no matter how often I hear it or perform it,” Morissette explains via e-mail. “May it hug your heart in the way it is intended to.”
Read Alanis’ full message to her fans below:

This video captures footage from the entire year of touring in 2012 around this wild world. Victor Indrizzo, who is my bandmate on drums, directed, shot and edited the piece.

Needless to say, communal international travel, as an artist, is a dream come true. Add that my family was with me — I was over the moon, if not completely sleep deprived! This song brings tears to my eyes no matter how often I hear it or perform it. May it hug your heart in the way it is intended to.

Xoxoxo
