Barbra Streisand to sing at the Oscars

Barbara Streisand has agreed to do a "special" performance at this year's Oscars - the first time she has performed at the ceremony in 36 years. The two-time Oscar-winner will take to the stage during the awards presentation which takes place on Sunday 24 February. Following the announcement of her appearance, the ceremony's producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement: "In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand?" Also set to perform at the Academy Awards are Norah Jones who will sing best original song nomination Everybody Needs a Best Friend from Ted and British singer Adele whose Golden Globe-winning Bond theme tune, Skyfall, is up for the same prize. 70-year-old Streisand last performed at the Oscars in 1977 when she sang Evergreen from A Star is Born, the winner of that year's gong for best original song. The singer and actress has previously received a best actress Oscar in 1969 for her debut role in the musical Funny Girl and a best song Oscar for her theme tune for film The Way We Were in 1974, composed by the late Marvin Hamilisch who is expected to be remembered at this year's ceremony.
