Icona Pop - 'Girlfriend' (Music Video)

I thought this single was scrapped, but it seems not! "Girlfriend" was supposed to be the grand follow-up to Swedish DJ duo Icona Pop's worldwide hit "I Love It", but it's now been relegated to European/Australian single, the only markets where the female friendship anthem has charted since being released in the first days of June. "Girlfriend" was scheduled to follow-up "I Love It" in the entire world, then "Just Another Night" was announced as the replacement of "Girlfriend", but now another new song called "All Night" (uh-huh, a different song with the word 'night' also on the title) is the official pick to become the official international, and therefore US, follow-up to "I Love It". "All Night" will hit iTunes next Tuesday, July 23. Yet, Icona Pop didn't want to consign their European/Australian single "Girlfriend" to complete oblivion. Although there's been no real promotion for it, they have at least given the song the music video treatment. Watch above! "Girlfriend" ain't a bad song, but it's missing the 'magic' "I Love It" has. There's a lot of Icona Pop chanting in the song, and a sample of Tupac Shakur's "Me and My Girlfriend" classic - also sampled, and made popular everywhere, by Jay-Z and Beyonce in "Bonnie & Clyde" - in the chorus. The music video for "Girlfriend" shows Caroline and Aino riding their MINI thorugh deserted roads and villages, and stepping off of it to search a train they can hop on and sing their song on its roof while in motion. Icona Pop also give the music video an extra dose of excitement by performing "Girlfriend" in a room filled with light effects.
